Student’s Questions, Answered

Honestly, there is no single “typical” session—and that is intentional.
We usually start by checking in: how your week went, what is working, and what is not. If there is something you want to focus on, we will work on that. If nothing comes to mind, that’s okay; we will figure it out together.
Sometimes sessions are conversation-based: talking through challenges, decisions, and strategies. Other times they are hands-on and practical. Sessions may involve:
• Organizing your backpack, planner, or systems
• Walking through campus while working through a problem
• Building a way to track assignments or responsibilities
• Practicing how to communicate with professors or others
• Going out for ice cream and facing social anxiety head on
• Working alongside you while you complete something important
Sessions are usually 45–60 minutes, but if we are having a productive conversation, you will not be cut off.

Wherever you feel comfortable: your dorm, a coffee shop, the library, a park, your home, or anywhere else across the Los Angeles area that makes sense for the work we do together.

Some parts may feel familiar—but coaching and therapy are different.
You are always welcome to talk about challenges, stress, or anything on your mind. We talk regularly, explore situations together, and figure out what helps. The difference is that coaching focuses on practical action, systems, and real-life functioning rather than deep clinical processing.
You set the direction. We work on what matters to you.
-
No. Unless you want me to.
What we discuss in sessions stays between us. Your parents receive a general monthly update about progress and ways they can support you—but not the details of our conversations.
The only exception is if I am concerned about your safety—such as suicidal ideation or self-harm.
If you ever want help talking to your parents, I can help: we can plan the conversation, or I can support you during it.
-
Please do not call me. Like many people with ADHD and autism, I find the sound of a phone ringing to be startling.
But PLEASE text whenever you need to.
During business hours: responses are typically within a couple of hours. Outside business hours or on weekends: responses come as soon as possible.
If something comes to mind: text in the moment. Your message matters.
-
No. This is collaborative. If something does not work for you, say so, and we will adjust together.
-
Not in the traditional sense. There are no worksheets or grading.
Instead, we experiment with strategies and systems in your life. You try what we discussed, then we see what worked, what did not, and what to adjust. The goal is finding what actually works for your brain.
